五十二位

The fifty-two stages in the process of becoming a Buddha; of these fifty-one are to bodhisattvahood, the fifty-second to Buddhahood. They are: Ten [lang id =1028]十信 or stages of faith; thirty of the [lang id =1028]三賢 or three grades of virtue i. e. ten [lang id =1028]十住, ten [lang id =1028]十行, and ten [lang id =1028]十廻向; and twelve of the three grades of [lang id =1028]聖 holiness, or sainthood, i. e. ten [lang id =1028]地, plus [lang id =1028]等覺 and [lang id =1028]妙覺. These are the Tiantai stages; there are others, and the number and character of the stages vary in different schools.

此乃明菩薩修行的階位， 諸經論所說不一， 自古廣為大乘諸家所採用的， 其名數為： 一、 十信心， 即信心、 念心、 精進心、 慧心、 定心、 不退心、 回向心、 護法心、 戒心、 願心。 二、 十心住， 即發心住、 治地心住、 修行心住、 生貴心住、 方便心住、 正心住、 不退心住、 童真心住、 法王子心住、 灌頂心住。 三、 十行心， 即歡喜心行、 饒益心行、 無嗔恨心行、 無盡心行、 離痴亂心行、 善現心行、 無著心行、 尊重心行、 善法心行、 真實心行。 四、 十回向心， 即救護一切眾生離相回向心、 不坏回向心、 等一切佛回向心、 至一切處回向心、 無盡功德藏回向心、 隨順平等善根回向心、 隨順等觀一切眾生回向心、 如相回向心、 無縛解脫回向心、 法界無量回向心。 五、 十地心， 即四無量心、 十善心、 明光心、 焰慧心、 大勝心、 現前心、 無生心、 不思議心、 慧光心、 受位心。 第四十一地之心稱為入法界心， 即為等覺。 第四十二地之心稱為寂滅心， 即為妙覺。 此中， 十住、 十行、 十回向、 十地、 等覺與妙覺， 依次配習種性、 性種性、 道種性、 聖種性、 等覺性、 妙覺性等。 見梁譯《攝大乘論釋》卷七， 《瑜伽師地論略纂》卷十二， 《華嚴經探玄記》卷五。

菩薩由凡夫到成佛， 一共要經過五十二個階位， 即十信、 十住、 十行、 十迴向、 十地、 等覺、 妙覺。 十信是由十住中的第一發心住內， 分開另立的， 若將其縮入發心住內， 則只有四十二位。 詳見大乘條。
